RENATA SA, with its head office near Basel Switzerland, is recognized worldwide as a leading producer of button cells for a variety of electronic applications.

Kurt Zehntner founded Renata in 1952, as a producer of mechanical parts for wristwatches. In 1954, the majority of Renata was sold to ASUAG. (ASUAG was an organization of well established Swiss watch brands; originally founded in 1931.)  Renata became a specialized button-cell battery producer in the late 70s, initially concentrating on the watch industry. In 1983, Nicolas G. Hayek merged the Swiss watchmakers ASUAG and SSIH (SSIH was an organization founded in 1930 through the amalgamation of the Swiss watch brands Omega and Tissot), creating SMH (Swiss Corporation for Microelectronics and Watchmaking Industries Ltd.)  In 1998, SMH was renamed The Swatch Group.

All services, including research and development, production, quality assurance and marketing are directed from Renata’s large and modern production plant located in the small Swiss city of Itingen.  Renata’s production plant is highly automated, producing over one million batteries a day. Renata is recognized for its top quality silver oxide batteries for watches, zinc-air batteries for hearing aids, as well as lithium 3V button cells for both consumer and industrial electronics.  Renata targets a variety of additional applications ranging from hand-held devices for the medical industry to RFID for security devices to PCs.  A complete assortment of holders for Lithium batteries is also produced.

Renata controls its entire process: from the sourcing of raw materials and production of key battery components up to final assembly and distribution, including punched battery housings and injection molded synthetic seals. Through management of the complete process, Renata has earned a reputation as an extremely flexible and reliable supplier of batteries.

Consistently producing high quality top performing batteries is the result of Renata’s quality assurance system.  Every stage of the process is tightly controlled, from inspection of incoming raw materials through testing of the finished product. Renata is ISO 9001:2000 and ISO/TS 16949 certified.
