RENATA’s born on date is marked on the side of each battery.

Renata silver oxide batteries have an open freshness “born on” date printed on the side of each battery. Before the transition to 0% Mercury, three-digits were used. The first digit indicated the year the battery was produced, and the next two, the month. A (colon) “:” preceding the numbers was used to indicate batteries which were produced over the last decade, whereas the decade prior had no “:” (colon). This first Renata battery was marked :809 indicating that it was produced in September of 2008.
With Renata’s Mercury Free system, the date code marking changed, becoming 2-digits only. The first digit marked on the side of the cell continues to indicate the year of production, while the second digit represents the month. For October, November and December 0, Y and Z are utilized. The second cell marked 0Z would indicate a Mercury Free battery produced in December of 2010.
All Mercury Free battery packaging is marked “0% Mercury.”
Please send your spent silver oxide batteries to us for recycling. Use extra caution when handling unused cells, and when possible, simply leave them in the packaging when the batteries are sent in for recycling.
